Who cares about the stupid sheep? How ‘bout a dollar….nah, we live in a very wealthy area- the dollar doesn’t mean much more to us than does the sheep. Okay, okay…let’s change the Bible! Luke Chapter 15 “suppose one of you has a hundred ___100 dollar bills_____and looses one of them. Does he not leave the other ninety-nine and go find the one?” The idea of leaving some things behind to find one little thing that is lost has to do with value. A 100 dollar bill is just a small piece of paper. What do you see when you look at it? It is dirty, sometimes torn…but it is valuable. A sheep was valuable to the people in the Bible; yet we see no special value to a sheep. Imagine dropping everything you had to do to look for a sheep! A 100 dollar bill is valuable to us but how does God see it? To someone who made and owns everything- what is 100 dollars? So what is important to God? In Genesis we see God talking to Cain- someone we would say is not a follower of God. His life was dirty. He lied to God. He killed his brother. Yet God pursued him and put a mark of protection on him. People matter to God. See non-Christians might be justified in hating us because of how we treat them. But we are never, ever justified in hating them. They are created by God. God wants them to see his love through us. You see God chose us not because we were better than everyone else but for everyone else.
Quote: “We know the cost of everything and the value of nothing.”
Life Principle: Let’s purpose to pay the price of getting to know some non-Christians and telling them with our lives that they are valuable to God and matter to us.
